Distracting Players

Do you ever have that itch? The itch to wager, to head to the nearest casino, to come across a superior stakes game of Texas holdem, to sit at a Twenty-one table for hours on end. I love that itch. And I really like to scratch it.

I also really like to watch people wager. No two poker faces seem equal. When I gamble I like to consider I put on a poker face that's impenetrable. But I know I've particular personal habits. For one, the only time I smoke is when I bet on poker or Pontoon. And then I chain smoke. But I smoke no matter if I am succeeding or losing, no matter if I've a beneficial hand or bad.

I once wagered in a weekly poker game. The game was generally five card draw. There was a player who bet with us just about every week who always wore a hat. When he was dealt a great hand, unconsciously, he would begin touching and wagering with his hat. Needless to say, he never won.

The very best poker player I ever saw was a guy who created more actions and signals at a poker table than anyone I had ever met. He was flawless in the way he dressed. Always an expensive suit and tie, footwear shined and nails trimmed. He was fastidious in this manner. And he was usually brushing his pant leg or holding his hands or putting his chips in tidy little piles.

I use to examine him for hours on end. I'd attempt to see if I could notice his tell. Picking fuzz off his vest- did this mean he was bluffing? Arranging his chips within a short pile - did this imply he had a excellent hand?

Many years later I bumped into him within a bar in Chicago, il and we had a drink. I asked him if he were aware of all those activities he manufactured or if they had been unconscious. He informed me that each individual thing he did at a poker table was intentional. He said that everybody is constantly checking out everybody else's poker face. They're trying to detect the the tell.

So his program was to give them lots to think about. His thinking was if they were pondering about him selecting a piece of lint off his vest and what it meant they sure were not pondering about their cards.

His program was distraction. And it worked for him. Never give up a system that works for you.
